Victor Wainwright, My Dog Riley, single premiere, Memphis Loud, Rock and Blues Muse

We are pleased to premiere 2019 Grammy nominee Victor Wainwright & The Train’s new single “My Dog Riley” from his upcoming album, Memphis Loud, out May 22nd via Ruf Records. This powerhouse Memphis soul, roots-rockin’ bluesman is one of the best piano players around. The high-octane boogie piano of vocalist, songwriter Wainwright is backed by his tight, smokin’ band. Victor Wainwright earned a 2019 Grammy nomination, has won multiple Blues Music Awards for the “Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year,” BMA awards for the “BB King Entertainer of the Year” and “Band of the Year” and is a 2020 BMA nominee for “Piano Player of the Year.”

In uncertain times, there’s one thing many of us can relate to and that’s the love and attention we receive from our pets. “My Dog Riley” is a humorous love letter to Victor Wainwright’s four-legged companion and it comes as a welcomed reprieve from the realities of COVID-19. With its lively upbeat New Orleans piano style, reminiscent of the great Dr. John, Wainwright joyfully sings about his dog while urging everyone to sing along.

“Cuddling and scratching is incredibly soothing for the soul,” Wainwright says, “and all the things that my dog gets into and makes a mess of, well… just about every pet owner can relate to that.”

Wainwright’s latest locomotive only further stokes his creative fire. Whether in the studio or on the stage, Memphis Loud follows The Train’s self-titled studio debut’s 2019 GRAMMY Nomination with joyous, ears-wide-open music. The exchange of energy is breathtaking. “Our fans are like locomotive firemen,” says the bandleader, “frantically shoveling coal into the furnace. They fuel us as we pull handles, twist knobs and screech around bends. With flying sparks and a wicked whistle, we’re arriving right on time with Memphis Loud.”

Memphis Loud, features 12 songs, all written/co-written by Wainwright and co-produced by Wainwright and Dave Gross. Memphis Loud is a snapshot of America’s great cities and genres, (Jam, Soul, Funk, Blues and Jazz) and combines Wainwright’s piano-driven rhythmic fire, with echoes of New Orleans piano, horns, sun-kissed guitars, tight drumming and bass, and a whole lot more.

With the album being tracked live, the chemistry and vocal ad-libs remain on the recording, immersing the listener as part of live recording experience.

On Memphis Loud, Victor Wainwright & The Train includes Victor Wainwright (vocals, piano, Hammond B3, electric piano,) Billy Dean (drums, percussion, vocals,) Terrence Grayson (bass, vocals,) Patt Harrington (guitar, vocals,) Mark Earley (baritone sax, tenor sax, clarinet,) Doug Woolverton (trumpet and flugelhorn,) and Dave Gross (guitar, vocals, percussion.)
