We are pleased to premiere the video ‘Big Block’ by New York Blues Hall of famer and Fodera guitar artist, Dave Fields, from his latest album, Force Of Will. An up-tempo boogie, the song features guitar slinger, singer-songwriter, Dave Fields, Steve Morse Band drummer Van Romaine and bass legend Buddy Allen (Rick Derringer.)

The opening of the video of a drag strip is fitting for this track with a racing tempo and ripping guitar licks courtesy of Dave Fields. Big Block drag racers, a hot rod tradition started in the ‘50s, are all muscle and power, a quarter of a mile of adrenalin and speed. “Big Block” is an explosive song with fiery riffs, a hard-charging number by this tight trio–all high rpms and velocity.

Force of Will, released July 3, 2020 and self-produced by Fields, is a ferocious mix of blues/rock  that takes you on a musical journey. From blues/rock to swampy blues and funky jazz blues, the 10 original tracks (except for one co-write) are written by Fields and feature innovative guitar styles and tones, with expressive vocals and guitar skills. The album features several notable guests on a variety of tracks, including Norwegian drummer Kare Amundsen and Bjorn Hagset on bass, and NYC music legend, Delmar Brown. The CD is dedicated to those lost to the coronavirus.

Along with six solo albums to his name, Fields has been an in-demand session musician, and has worked with musical greats such as U2, Aretha Franklin, The Drifters, Sean Lennon, Hubert Sumlin and Lenny Kravitz. He won Best Self-Produced Album at the IBC for his album, Back in Bluesville, and a slew of other awards. Legendary British Bluesman John Mayall recorded Dave’s song “Train To My Heart” on his album, Tough. Dave’s albums Times A Wastin’, All Wound Up, and Detonation all reached #1 in RMR Top 50 blues charts.

“When I first heard him, I knew he had something special. When Dave plays he plays with such passion. –Hubert Sumlin.

A life-long New Yorker, Dave Fields is the son of composer, producer Sammy Fields. He grew up in his father’s recording studio and from the age of 14, Fields played guitar with him and went on to study at the Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA.
