Guitar legend Eric Clapton announced today that he will be hosting a series of concert dates across the U.S. in September 2021. Jimmie Vaughan will be opening for the eight-city run. Tickets for these shows will go on sale starting Friday, June 18th at 10am. Marking his only North American tour dates for 2021, the eight city tour will start in Texas before going to New Orleans and Nashville and closing in Florida.

Eric Clapton’s band for these shows will include longtime collaborator guitarist Doyle Bramhall II, as well as organist Paul Carrack, bassist Nathan East, drummers Sonny Emory and Steve Gadd, and keyboardist Chris Stainton. Sharon White and Katie Kissoon will provide backing vocals and guitarist Jimmie Vaughan will be the tour’s special guest.

Clapton has not toured since before the pandemic. The newly announced shows will be Clapton’s only North American dates for 2021 and will precede his European tour, which was recently rescheduled to Spring of 2022 due to ongoing COVID restrictions in Europe. Many of the European dates were originally scheduled for March of 2020 then moved to 2021. The ongoing COVID restrictions regarding mass gatherings pushed the shows to 2022.

In a letter to the editor, published May 12 in Telegram app, Clapton criticized the “propaganda” associated with the vaccine. Shared by Robin Monotti, a friend and vocal opponent of Covid19 lockdown measures, described the musician’s negative reaction to the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
