Listen to “That’s When You Know That You’re Down”

“That’s When You Know That You’re Down” is a soulful, guitar-focused track that calls back to JD’s influences from the psychedelic rock era of the 60s and 70s. JD’s use of reverb gives the song a gritty, raw sound, which is also matched by his vocal stylings. The fast-paced, improv style drums give the song a jazz-like sound, showcasing JD and his band’s ability to seamlessly merge multiple genres of music together. The song is rife with impressive guitar solos, right up until it fades out.

The new single follows the release of “Know It All”, the first song released from JD’s upcoming album Mind Control. The song is currently playing at radio stations across the country.

Mind Control, due out on November 5, was created during the lockdown in 2020, after JD Simo would play music live weekly on his social media accounts. These virtual performances inspired him to create these new tracks in a makeshift studio with his long-time collaborator, Adam Abrashoff, whose skills are featured on the drums, a highlight in this new single.

JD is currently on a co-headlining tour with Boston based blues band GA-20.

About JD Simo
Rather than simply roll up to those fabled crossroads of blues lore, JD Simo builds a bridge by hand. The Chicago-born and Nashville-based singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer connects the missing link between Motown and Woodstock as he fuses fluid and fiery fretwork with vital and vulnerable vocals. JD has been acclaimed by Rolling Stone, NPR, Guitar Player, Relix, No Depression, and more. Logging hundreds of gigs annually, he has collaborated with Jack White, Tommy Emmanuel, Luther Dickinson, Blackberry Smoke, and more. Not to mention, he graced the bills of festivals, including Bonnaroo, Warren Haynes Christmas Jam, and Mountain Jam. Phil Lesh, iconic co-founder of The Grateful Dead, invited him to join Phil Lesh and Friends.
