Video Premiere: The Stone Foxes ‘Time Is A Killer’

Rock & Blues Muse is pleased to exclusively premiere The Stone Foxes “Time Is A Killer,” their latest single and music video from their forthcoming LP On The Other Side, due out on November 18th, 2022.

The San Francisco-based duo, founded by brothers Shannon and Spence Koehler, The Stone Foxes create indie blues/rock music that exists in a unique place that puts their own originality next to influences like Jack White, The Black Keys, and The Black Crowes.

“Time Is A Killer” is equal parts hit single and movie soundtrack, putting The Stone Foxes in a bright, relevant spotlight. The brothers co-produced their new material with Shannon handling lead vocals, drums, and harmonica and Spence on lead guitar, rhythm guitar, pedal steel, and bass. Together, they make a glorious, addictive noise that will set both your brain and body in motion.

“The lyrical theme came from the idea of Mother Nature being a character – a stone cold killer – which she is. Mother Nature doesn’t play games. Mother Nature will auto-correct our foolishness. And after a certain amount of time, Mother Nature will move on without us if we don’t get wise,” says The Stone Foxes’ Shannon Koehler.

“It’s not complicated by any stretch, but it’s one of the first songs I’ve ever written on piano,” Shannon adds. “However, I am very aware that it’s Spence’s guitar, the horns, and the backup singers—Emilie, Zola, and Kelly—that really make the track go to another level. We tried to make a big soup out of Spence’s guitar, a little early Wu-Tang beat influence, and some Ennio Morricone.” The music video explores ideas about time in a Tarantino-ish way that adds much impact to this already-strong track.

The band includes Shannon Koehler (lead vocals, drums, harmonica), Spence Koehler (guitars, pedal steel), Ian McDonald (keys), Vince Dewald (bass), Elliott Peltzman (keys), Ben Andrews (guitar), Brian Bakalian (guitar), Kelly McFarling (vocals), Elliott Peck (vocals), Mario Silva 9trumpet), Danny Lubin-Ladin (trombone.)

On The Other Side will be the first full-length album recorded by Shannon and Spence in more than six years. For the Koehler brothers, the record is a cinematic western rock and roll soundtrack to pull you through when the road gets rough. The lyrics and sounds reflect Shannon’s journey through a second open heart surgery, the brother’s struggles with anxiety, being grounded by love, and the experience of living in a deeply disturbed America.

“Time Is A Killer” has a lot to say, as do The Stone Foxes. They’re a strong contender for greatness and stand tall when compared to other current rock bands. Both Shannon and Spence push hard to make music that’s meaningful to them and to connect with the world at large.
