South of Eden

Columbus, OH based rock band South of Eden has released their newest single, a cover of the 1984 Van Halen track “Drop Dead Legs,” off of their breakout album, 1984. Directed by front-man Ehab Omran and edited by John Payne, “Drop Dead Legs” is only streamable from the band’s YouTube and Facebook.

South of Eden shows a ton of class on the group’s cover and in-studio video clip of the Van Halen classic “Drop Dead Legs.” It’s an often-overlooked track from the VH body of work but is a killer rock song that stands up to the band’s reworking well. South of Eden shows their collective respect for Eddie, Dave, Alex, and Michael and deliver a performance that grooves hard, stretches when it needs to, and flat-out rocks. They don’t change the vibe or spirit of the tune, instead choosing to jam it out for the cameras for a new generation of rock fans and let it speak for itself. South of Eden can absolutely hang with the best rock bands of any era and this track and video make that abundantly clear.

“‘Drop Dead Legs’ is one of many VH songs where the riff, lyrics, and groove come together to form a sound signature to those 4 dudes jamming in a room. Although we have played ‘Unchained’, ‘Running With the Devil’, ‘Beautiful Girls’ and more of their other tunes live, ‘Drop Dead Legs’ felt like the best choice to encapsulate everything we love about Van Halen! RIP to a legend” — Ehab Omran (Lead Vocals, Acoustic Guitar)

South of Eden released their debut EP, The Talk in 2020 via Lava Records, flaunting towering vocals and wild guitar solos, the quartet challenge rock n’ roll to its very core with a timeless approach and 21st century swagger.

Listen “Drop Dead Legs”

We’re a band that writes, records, and plays like the pioneers of rock before us. We aren’t looking to bring anything back, but instead to remind people what rock n roll means. No rules. This music represents what we believe is real, raw music.

South of Eden (formerly Black Coffee) are: Ehab Omran [lead vocals, acoustic guitar], Justin Young [lead guitar, vocals], Tom McCullough [drums], and Nick Fratianne [bass]. The Columbus, OH quartet have already performed alongside everyone from the Foo Fighters to System of a Down, and invite you to join them on their journey of looking at rock ‘n’ roll through a modern lens.

“Our goal is to help open the doors for rock in the modern era. We want to sound the way we hear rock n roll in our heads; vintage with a sprinkle of today. The objective is to give listeners the feeling of discovering the genre for the first time. We think now is the moment to be a rock band.”
