Fundraiser for Catfish Lead Singer Matt Long’s Cancer Battle

Matt Long, multi award-winning guitarist, singer and songwriter with the UK blues rock band Catfish, continues to battle ongoing bowel cancer and he needs help with paying for medical treatment. He has just been told a few days ago that the chemotherapy has not worked and the cancer has spread to his liver and stomach lining. The hospital team is not sure there is anything else they can do on the NHS so his mother Fiona Long is having to look at private options including those in the USA.

Matt has been battling bowel cancer for just under a year. His cancer team have said there is the option of trying a different type of chemo and it’s possible it might extend his life. Without any treatment, his cancer team said that Matt won’t make it past the end of this year.

There is an option to have a sample of the tumor sequenced which will give us the maximum amount of information on its make up, which will then show the cancer team exactly what drugs to use to damage it – to either slow it down, or there is just a small chance that they may be able to kill it.

The music community and Matt’s friends and family have come together and raised a large amount of money on a crowdfunder so that they can give him access to whatever treatment is available which may help him either live a little longer or maybe with a miracle save his life.

The band Catfish has cancelled their European tour and tours over the next couple of months. Matt’s medical team stated that it would be good for his mental health to focus on other things such as the music he loves once he is certain of his treatment schedule. He might be well enough to do festivals, the band added.
