Covid-19

With the announcement on Monday by Pfizer that their coronavirus vaccine is more than 90% effective at preventing the disease, Ticketmaster plans to ask concert goers for proof of the Covid-19 vaccine or to show proof of a coronavirus-free test within 24-72 hours before a concert or sporting event. The vaccine’s success rate is based on preliminary results.

Ticketmaster is working on a plan for using fans’ phones (CLEAR Health Pass  or IBM’s Digital Health Pass ) to confirm their vaccination status or their negative Covid-19 test within hours of the event, according to Billboard.

In an effort to get fans back to live concert or sporting events with safety measures to prevent the spread of the virus, Ticketmaster is planning to sync third party healthcare providers to fans’ Covid-19 vaccine status or test results.

Ticketmaster’s plan is still in development but so far it will have three components:

  • Ticketmaster digital ticket app
  • Third party health companies such as CLEAR Health Pass or IBM’s Digital Health Pass
  • Testing and vaccine providers such as CVS Minute Clinic and LabCorp.

So far the plan will work like this:

After buying a ticket to a concert or sporting event, fans will need to verify that they’ve been vaccinated or have tested negative for the coronavirus within 24-72 hours before the event.

Completed test results from the lab are triggered by fans to their health pass companies. If vaccinated or Covid-19 test is negative, then the health pass companies would report fans’ health status to Ticketmaster, which would then grant access to the event.

Billboard reports that Ticketmaster would not store or have access to fans’ medical records. Health pass companies collect data from testing and medical providers and deliver status updates to partner companies in secure, encrypted form.

The FDA has not yet approved any third party companies to provide the technology to deliver vaccination or test results in real time.

Sounds complicated. But hopeful.
