The Hogtown Allstars

We are pleased to exclusively premiere the video “Mr. Lucky” by The Hogtown Allstars, from their new album Hog Wild out on Stony Plain Records.

The Hogtown Allstars is a new Canadian supergroup of multi award-winning blues musicians from Toronto. Their collective shelves are lined with more than 20+ Maple Blues Awards, five JUNO Awards, two Lifetime Achievement Awards, and countless International blues and jazz music awards.

“Mr. Lucky” is a thoroughly rollicking blues track with a strong New Orleans vibe to it that tells the story of an individual living a charmed life. It’s about as happy as music can get and you can practically hear vocalist Chuck Jackson smiling through his microphone. Piano player Tyler Yarema is the instrumental focus of the arrangement and he does not disappoint, turning in a hot take full of sass and melody. The music video is completely charming and stars a most adorable pet pig on a leash. The Hogtown Allstars are nothing but fun and all you’ll want to do is dance as soon as you hear them.

Drummer Jim Casson says, “The video for the song ‘Mr. Lucky’ by The Hogtown Allstars is a story of a man who is so happy with his life that he can walk around town with his best friend, not caring what other people think. He is a man comfortable in his own skin. He meets people with and pleasant wave and a smile. He dances to music in the street. The kids all love him. However, it’s not until the end of the song where find discover who ‘Mr. Lucky’ actually is.”

As for the name ‘Allstars’ they come by that moniker honestly, built with with some of the most dynamic and experienced players on the global blues scene, the 7-piece adds up to Downchild Blues Band alum Chuck Jackson (lead vocals/harmonica), Pat Carey (sax), Gary Kendall (bass), Jim Casson drums), and Tyler Yarema (piano/organ) alongside Maple Blues Band alums Teddy Leonard (guitar) and Howard Moore (trumpet).

Featuring eight new all-original songs, and two covers, Hog Wild was recorded throughout 2021 once the group nailed their first challenge: coordinating everyone’s schedule to hit the studio. It’s the first release for the undeniable supergroup that first started in 2013 as a collaborative, creative outlet for Toronto-based musicians dedicated to the genre.
