Samantha Fish and Jesse Dayton Release Unflinching Track ‘Settle For Less’

Powerhouse blues player Samantha Fish and modern renaissance artist/guitarist Jesse Dayton unveil their pounding new track “Settle For Less” from their upcoming collaboration, Death Wish Blues (out May 19th on Rounder Records). Featuring slow-burning verses and a hard-hitting chorus, “Settle For Less” is a fierce, emotive rumination on self-esteem.

Describing the song, Fish says, “The sentiment of that song is that if you settle for anything short of what you deserve, that’s exactly what you’re going to get.” Fish co-wrote the track with her frequent collaborator Jim McCormick (Tim McGraw, Trisha Yearwood).

“Settle For Less” uses trippy, tremolo-soaked guitars and unusual arrangement tactics to send out the message that we get what we go for. It’s a wonderfully crunchy rock track that allows both Fish and Dayton to shine. The vocals are strident and strong and all guitars involved flex every muscle they’ve got. Together, Fish and Dayton create a new-generation rock sound that acknowledges the classics but never imitates them. You should be listening to them right now.

Death Wish Blues highlights the authentic strength of Fish and Dayton’s musicianship as they push the limits of the blues genre. With production from the eminent Jon Spencer, the duo move well beyond tradition and towards daring experimentation with textures and grooves. The result is a commanding blend of scorching blues, deep soul, punk, funk, and dirty, gritty rock-and-roll.

Fish and Dayton are gearing up for a round of tour dates to support Death Wish Blues, including the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on April 29th. A full list of tour dates is below.

Hailing from Kansas City, MO, Samantha Fish is one of the most dynamic blues forces in the world today, headlining festivals and captivating audiences with her guitar prowess and power vocals. An award-winner and road warrior, she performs 200 shows yearly, both domestically and abroad. Death Wish Blues is her 7th album. Jesse Dayton boasts an exceptional resume as an acclaimed solo recording artist, collaborator with artists such as Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Duff McKagan, a touring guitarist for seminal punk band X, teammate with Rob Zombie on the soundtracks for his iconic horror films, and as a radio show host on Gimme Country.
